Becoming The Burrito

|

It's been a while since I've written a post about my experiences with burritos, and part of the reason for this is because it's been a while since I've had an emotionally transformative burrito. That is, until today. Today during my lunch break I was deciding between getting hot dogs or a burrito for lunch. If you know me well enough, you know that this is not an easy decision to make. However, since I was pretty hungry, I ended up going with the Chipotle burrito since I figured I would end up with more food.

To be honest, there should have been nothing special about this particular burrito. It was a steak burrito with the same ingredients that I get almost every time I go to Chipotle. It wasn't until I had taken the first byte that it hit me: it was as if I was asleep all morning and the burrito had made me come alive. It was quite a noticeable difference. However, as I got deeper into the burrito, the effects started to change, and each byte had me feeling a different type of way. Some bytes were very meaty (in the good way) while others were too lettucey (in the not so good way), and some in the middle were noticeably limey (in a way that caught my attention without being definitively good or bad).

The three feelings I felt went on for the duration of the burrito, and that's when it started to hit me. In the burritos of our lives, there are going to be good days, bad days, and the days in between. It's not always up to us what bytes we end up getting, but with every portion of the burrito we consume, it becomes a part of us. In other words, all of our daily experiences shape us into who we are, and it's up to us to determine how will react to the events of each day.

The last byte of the burrito was just as influential as the first, bringing me to the lesson that I'd like to leave with you. When you have good days, enjoy them to the fullest and make every minute count. When you have not so good days, don't lose hope. And when you have those days in the middle, keep your eyes open to the limeyness of life, the limeyness that gives meaning to otherwise uneventful events. Above all, the important thing is to never give up. Keep pressing on towards the last byte of your burrito until the whole burrito is consumed, for when you consume the burrito, not only does the burrito become a part of you, but you become the burrito.
