Taste of Food // Flavors of Friendship

Every burrito starts with a tortilla. As simple as it sounds, it seems as though I've taken this truth for granted, because only today did I realize that the circular shape of the tortilla directs us to a greater circle we encounter every day: the circle of life. It's been quite a while since I've had a burrito that was monumental enough to warrant a post, but today involved both a burrito and a monument, ultimately leading to my epiphany on the circle of life.

Thanks to my family members in Dubai, I had the opportunity to see the Burj Khalifa. It was quite tall. My family went to great heights to show us around the city, and during our adventures my cousin made a reference to a burrito post that I had written several months ago. It surprised me that someone living in another continent would remember my love for burritos, but she made sure that she would get me a burrito at some point during my time in Dubai. I was not thinking about burritos for the last few days, but the fact that a burrito post from many months ago would lead to me eating a burrito on the other side of the globe left me with the realization that things had come full circle.

I didn't really know what to expect from this burrito. When I opened the wrapper, I noticed that the burrito was quite tall, which I now recognize as being similar to the Burj Khalifa (although a little bit smaller). Upon taking the first byte I thought to myself, "wow, this is kinda spicy." Those of you who know me well know that I live for the spice, so the surprise in the spice was unexpected, yet salubrious.

I could go on and on about this burrito, but instead I'd just like to leave you with this thought: Not all spices are created equal. Some spices can be tasteful and inviting. Others can be excessive and self-serving. But the important thing is that every spice is different, and we ought to be grateful for the spices in life that are generous to us: the spices that make us feel things on our taste buds and in our hearts. In my case, I'd like to thank my cousin for being the spice: for buying me a burrito and for bringing the entire experience full circle.

If you've made it this far, I'd just like to wish you a salubrious spice. Perhaps it will come in the taste of food or in the flavors of friendship, but either way I hope it gives you warm feelings on the inside. And if the spice doesn't come right away, I challenge you to be the spice for someone else and make someone else's day. As the towel of my beloved roommate says:

"Live life with a little spice." <3
