Every Beanie Tells a Story
Jan 1, 2019 |
Over the years I’ve accumulated quite a few beanies. Except during the hot summer months, you will most likely find me wearing one of these on my head to flatten my hair, keep my ears warm, and/or add to my a e s t h e t i c.
The beanies come in several styles and colors, and the beanie of the day gets chosen based on a variety of factors such as my outfit, the weather, or any particular vibes I might be going for. I also have another beanie not pictured here that fits perfectly underneath my bike helmet (thank UP my secret santa) and keeps my ears warm on my adventures throughout #chicitymycity.
Some beanies have served purposes beyond just being on my head. For the last few months I’ve been sleeping with a beanie on my elbow to keep it from bending at night. Other times I’ve used beanies as padding underneath my guitar strap to reduce pressure on my shoulder.
All of this is to say that every beanie tells a story. Like many others who have shared, my 2018 had a lot of ups and a lot of downs. It was almost as if every day my emotions would often go from salubrity to bogosity and back. But every morning when I put on that beanie, it’s one small thing that gets me hyped and ready to go.
Stepping into 2019, I don’t know which days are going to be good days and which will be bad days. But the beanie does not remember which days have been good and which have been bad. When I go home and take the beanie off, that beanie joins the stack of other beanies until the next day when I have to choose a beanie again.
On a someone related note, one thing that I learned in the final hours of 2018 is that God gets the final word. Just like my beanies, God doesn’t keep track of my good days and bad days. What matters is that I choose to get up and wear the beanie. God doesn’t condemn me and neither do my beanies. Let’s start this year off on the right ear. Happy new year, friends 💙
